Description

Model FFSSGG

Attach Odd-spaced Fiberglass Grating to structures.

G-Clip model FFSSGG- is a flattened, 316-stainless steel grating fastener used to fasten odd-spaced bar centers to structural shapes, where the structural flange is in a horizontal plane. Specially modified top assembly is designed to span a total of 3-1/16″ with good rigidity and fits flat across the top of the grating surface.
G-Clip model FFSSGG- fastener consists of three parts, which are assembled at the factory into a complete installation unit, packed 50 units to a standard box.

The principal part is the body assembly, which has a female-thread form in its upper portion. Body lower portion is die-stamped, with die-cut, toothed shaped segments facing upward, which contact the underside of the structural member. The second part is the specially-shaped stamped top, further modified, which fits flat over the grating upper surface. The top is 3- overall width, designed to span many odd bars The body and top are joined by a 1/4″-20 threaded bolt, in proper length for the application.

INSTALLATION PREPARATION
As with any grating fastener, care should be taken during the grating layout, cutting and placement phase, to reduce the quantity of grating cross bars that are located over the structural member flange edge. This reduces the quantity of grating cross bars that interfere with fastener placement, which otherwise requires cutting of cross bars.

TOOLS REQUIRED
G-Clips can be installed using a handheld 7/16″ nut driver.

INSTALLATION GUIDE
Hold the G-Clip square top in hand, allowing the body portion to hang downward. Fit the body between two bearing bars and lower the unit until the body is below the grating bottom. Slide unit laterally toward, and allow it to fit under, the structural member flange. Pull upward on the top of the G-Clip, holding upward force. With the formed lower body secure under the flange area, tighten the bolt with a 7/16″ wrench, to complete the installation of the G- unit.

TORQUE MEASUREMENTS
Common handheld nut drivers have a handle diameter of 1″ to 1- 1/4″, which will allow installation torque (resistance to further tightening) of approximately 60 inch/pounds to be easily achieved. This is sufficient for many installation requirements. Electrical or pneumatic driven tools are often used on large grating surface areas. Do not exceed torque values of 100 inch/pounds if fastener reuse is desired.

When severe vibrations are anticipated or structural movements may occur, a higher torque value can be used. Stainless steel G-Clips can withstand installation torques of 125 inch/pounds where reuse may be sacrificed for greater holding force.

HOW TO ORDER
Determine the total height of grating and thickness of the flange area. Describe grating configuration to specify proper top assembly to suit grating being installed. Generous quantities of popular sizes are usually in stock and can be shipped same day if ordered before 2:00 p.m. CST.
